Over a hundred illegal structures evicted in Chittagong City Corporation drive

The Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) has demolished over a hundred illegal shops and structures built by occupying roads and sidewalks in various areas of Chittagong city. This special drive was conducted to free the public roads and footpaths from illegal occupation. As a result, the roads that had been occupied for a long time have been reopened for pedestrians.

The mobile court of the City Corporation conducted this drive. Illegal shops, makeshift stalls, and temporary structures built in the busiest areas of the city were demolished using bulldozers. Local residents said that due to these illegal shops, severe traffic jams occurred regularly, causing immense suffering to pedestrians.

Regarding the drive, City Corporation officials stated that this action was taken against those who kept occupying the roads and sidewalks despite repeated warnings. They added that such drives will be conducted regularly in the future to ensure easy movement for the general public. However, the evicted small traders have demanded rehabilitation.

Local residents have welcomed this initiative of the City Corporation. However, they expressed concern that without proper monitoring, these places might be re-occupied after a few days. Therefore, conscious citizens have demanded increased regular surveillance to keep the roads and sidewalks permanently free from occupation.
