Jamaat activist arrested with Yaba in Chattogram

Police have arrested a Jamaat-e-Islami activist with Yaba tablets in Lohagara upazila of Chattogram. The arrestee has been identified as Md. Mizanur Rahman. According to police and local sources, he has been involved with Jamaat politics in the area for a long time.

Police said that based on a secret tip-off, a special team from Lohagara Police Station conducted a drive in the upazila headquarters last night. Mizanur was detained on suspicion, and upon searching him, 500 pieces of Yaba tablets worth around BDT 1.5 lakh were recovered.

Following the incident, local residents alleged that Mizanur had been involved in the drug trade under the guise of his political identity. However, local Jamaat leaders claimed that Mizanur is not an active member of their party and the case was filed to harass him politically. Meanwhile, police stated that this drive is part of their regular anti-drug operations.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lohagara Police Station said a case has been filed against Mizanur under the Narcotics Control Act. He was sent to jail through a court order this morning. Police added that such drives will be intensified to curb drug abuse in the area.
