Police arrested two activists of Chhatra League from a procession in the Chandona Chowrasta area of Gazipur city. Yesterday afternoon, a group of youths suddenly took to the streets and started chanting slogans. Upon receiving the news, police rushed to the spot, chased them, and caught two of them.
Local residents said that there had been no Chhatra League processions or meetings in the area for some time. However, yesterday afternoon, 10-15 youths suddenly gathered and brought out a procession. This caused some panic among the common people. Later, the police arrived and brought the situation under control.
The local police officer stated that the police are working to maintain peace in the area. The two individuals detained from the procession already have cases pending against them at the police station. They are currently being interrogated at the station.
Following the incident, additional police patrols have been deployed in the area. Police said they are keeping a close watch to prevent any further trouble. The two detainees will be sent to court today.
