A young tourist drowned while visiting the famous Tanguar Haor in Sunamganj. He met with this tragic accident while enjoying a trip with his friends. The incident has cast a shadow of grief over his friends and the local community.
According to local sources, thousands of tourists visit Tanguar Haor daily from different parts of the country. The young man had also come to visit the haor on a boat with his friends. Around noon, they all went into the water to bathe near the watchtower area.
At one point during the bath, the young man went deep into the water and could not resurface due to strong currents. When his friends could not find him and started screaming, local boatmen rushed to help. Police and fire service personnel were also informed.
After searching for some time, the young man's unconscious body was recovered from the water. He was rushed to a local hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The administration has urged tourists to wear life jackets while bathing in the haor.
“Tragic drowning incidents of tourists are frequently reported in Tanguar Haor due to a lack of awareness. Out-of-town tourists often do not realize the depth of the haor and the hidden undercurrents. To prevent such accidents, local administration must increase monitoring and make life jackets mandatory for tourists entering the water.”
