A notification was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration confirming this decision. With this status, he will enjoy all the privileges and facilities of a State Minister.
Ashik Chowdhury is a seasoned investment banker with extensive experience. Before taking up this role, he served in senior positions at the multinational bank HSBC in Singapore. The interim government appointed him to lead BIDA in a bid to revitalize the economy and attract foreign investors.
Economists and business leaders have welcomed the decision to upgrade his status. They believe that granting him the rank of a State Minister will give him more leverage when negotiating with foreign investors and international organizations. This move is expected to improve the overall investment climate in Bangladesh.
With this new status, Ashik Chowdhury is expected to play a more influential role in boosting foreign direct investment. Under the current economic circumstances, attracting foreign capital is crucial for the country. “Elevating Ashik Chowdhury to the rank of State Minister is a strategic move. It sends a strong signal to foreign investors about the government's commitment to economic reforms. Having a professional investment banker with ministerial status will likely reduce bureaucratic red tape and speed up investment decisions.”
