Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has alleged that opposition members of parliament (MPs) face severe discrimination in government allocations for local development. He stated that opposition MPs receive a fraction of the funds allocated to ruling party lawmakers, depriving ordinary citizens of their rights.
He further added that every citizen of the country deserves equal opportunities and facilities. However, due to political vengeance, development work for roads, schools, colleges, and other essential infrastructure in opposition-led constituencies remains stalled while ruling party MPs enjoy disproportionate benefits.
The Jamaat chief emphasized that the national development budget is funded by taxpayers' money. Therefore, any partisan policy in distributing these funds is unacceptable. He urged the government to immediately allocate development budgets equally across all parliamentary seats.
Political analysts suggest that to ensure overall and balanced national development, allocations must be made beyond political considerations. True development is impossible without ensuring equal rights for people in all regions, requiring the government to be more inclusive and responsible.
