A teenager was reportedly tied to a tree and brutally beaten over theft allegations in Sreepur, Gazipur. Family members of the victim were also allegedly harassed when they tried to save him. The incident has sparked intense local outrage after a video of the torture went viral on social media.
According to local sources, the incident took place on Wednesday afternoon in a village in Sreepur. A group of local people accused the boy of stealing a mobile phone. Without any proof, they dragged him from his house, tied him to a mango tree, and beat him with sticks. Despite the boy repeatedly pleading his innocence, the attackers did not stop.
Following the incident, the victim's mother filed a written complaint at the Sreepur Police Station. She stated that her son is innocent and was subjected to inhumane torture under false allegations. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur Police Station said that police have visited the spot and are identifying the culprits from the viral video.
Human rights activists have strongly condemned the incident, stating that taking the law into one's own hands and torturing a child is a severe crime. They warned that if swift action is not taken, such lawlessness will increase in society. Police assured that raids are ongoing to arrest the accused.
“The trend of taking the law into one's own hands is taking a dangerous turn in society. Beating a teenager tied to a tree over mere theft allegations without proof is not only a violation of human rights but also a defiance of the country's legal system. To stop such incidents of mob justice, the perpetrators must be swiftly arrested and exemplary punishment must be ensured.”
