Two police officers were attacked and injured by villagers during an arrest drive in Gurudaspur upazila of Natore. The incident occurred when the officers went to a village in plain clothes for an operation. An excited mob chased and beat them up before additional police forces rescued them.
According to local sources, the two officers went to the village at night to arrest an accused person. Since they were in civilian clothes, the villagers could not recognize them. Suspecting them to be thieves or robbers, the locals raised an alarm, and a crowd gathered quickly to attack them.
Following the incident, additional police forces have been deployed in the area. The local Union Parishad chairman stated that the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding. The situation escalated before the officers could properly identify themselves, though he noted that taking the law into one's own hands was unacceptable.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gurudaspur Police Station said that they are preparing to file a case for obstructing government duty and attacking the police. An investigation has been launched to identify those involved. The situation is currently under control, and police remain alert.
