Sylhet traders agree to close shops by 8 PM

Local traders in Sylhet have agreed to close all shops, shopping malls, and markets by 8 PM to save electricity. This consensus was reached during a recent meeting between business leaders, Sylhet City Corporation, and district administration officials. The traders stated that this step has been taken in compliance with government directives to tackle the ongoing power crisis in the country.

Although the government rule to close shops after 8 PM is in place nationwide, it was not fully implemented in Sylhet. However, due to the recent increase in load shedding and strict monitoring by the administration, traders have now agreed to follow the rule. Business leaders mentioned that implementing this rule will save a significant amount of electricity daily in Sylhet.

General citizens and environmentalists have welcomed this decision. They believe that closing shops on time will reduce traffic congestion in the city and allow people to spend more time with their families. However, some small traders expressed concern, saying that sales are usually higher at night, so sudden closures might impact their income.

The administration has warned that legal action will be taken against those who keep shops open after 8 PM. However, hotels, restaurants, pharmacies, and emergency services will remain exempt from this rule. Traders hope that with everyone's cooperation, this rule can be successfully implemented to ease the electricity crisis.
