The government has taken a new initiative to improve and simplify services for people at the grassroots level. From now on, the best Union Parishads and their chairmen will receive special awards every year. According to sources in the Local Government Division, this decision has been made to boost the efficiency of Union Parishads and encourage local representatives to perform better.
Generally, Union Parishads are responsible for constructing rural roads, registering births and deaths, and delivering various government benefits to the public. However, delays and inefficiencies are often observed in some councils. To eliminate this sluggishness and foster healthy competition, the government is establishing an evaluation system under a specific policy. The best councils and chairmen will be selected based on set criteria.
Work has already begun on drafting a policy to implement these awards. Officials from the Local Government Division stated that honesty, transparency, speed of public service delivery, and special contributions to local development will be considered for the awards. This is expected to create healthy competition among local representatives to do good work.
Experts believe that this initiative will enable rural citizens to access government services more quickly and easily. It will increase the accountability of Union Parishads and significantly reduce corruption. The process for these awards is expected to be finalized and officially announced very soon.
“This initiative to strengthen local government is commendable. However, it is crucial to ensure that there is no political influence or bias in selecting the awardees. The true purpose of this initiative can only be achieved through transparent evaluation.”
