All local government elections within this fiscal year: Mir Shahe Alam

All local government elections in the country are scheduled to be completed within the current fiscal year. Mir Shahe Alam, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, shared this decision after a committee meeting held at the parliament building. He emphasized that holding these elections promptly is crucial for maintaining democracy and development at the grassroots level.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and various legal complications, local government elections in several areas could not be held on time. A number of elections for Union Parishads, Municipalities, and Upazila Parishads have been pending. The government now aims to complete these elections quickly to strengthen local administration.

Local citizens and political activists have welcomed this decision. They believe that development work in many areas has stalled due to the lack of timely elections. They hope that electing new representatives will accelerate the development of roads and civic amenities.

According to Election Commission sources, preparations for announcing the election schedules have already begun. Once the demarcation of boundaries and updating of voter lists are completed, election dates will be announced in phases. Ensuring fair and peaceful voting remains the key challenge.
