A major shift is being observed in the BNP politics of the parliamentary constituency comprising Bajitpur and Nikli upazilas in Kishoreganj. Putting aside long-standing differences, two heavyweight leaders of the party, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Iqbal and Ehsanul Haq, have now appeared on the same stage. Recently, they were seen participating together in public relations and political programs in the area, sparking widespread discussion among local activists.
Local sources reveal that multiple factions had been active in BNP politics in this constituency for a long time. One faction was led by former MP and central leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Iqbal, while the other was led by the young and influential leader Ehsanul Haq. Due to this distance between them, field-level workers were also divided. However, following instructions from the party high command and their own mutual understanding, they recently decided to work together.
General people and grassroots BNP workers of Bajitpur and Nikli have welcomed this new political equation. They say that the united stance of the two leaders will eliminate all internal conflicts within the party. Local leaders believe that from now on, the organizational activities of the BNP in the area will become more dynamic, and the party's acceptance among the general public will increase.
According to political analysts, this unity is crucial for the BNP ahead of the upcoming national elections. If Mujibur Rahman Iqbal's parliamentary experience and Ehsanul Haq's field-level popularity are combined, the BNP will be in a very advantageous position in this constituency. It remains to be seen how long this unity lasts and what results it brings for the party in the future.
“The resolution of the long-standing conflict in Bajitpur BNP is a major relief for the party. This unity between the two leaders proves that the BNP is focusing on resolving internal disputes to boost its strength before the elections. However, maintaining this unity and bringing all grassroots workers together will be their real challenge.”
