It will take time to clear 17 years of mess: Nazrul Islam Khan

BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan has called for giving the interim government time to clear the mess and damage left behind by 17 years of autocratic rule. He stated that it is impossible to fix the irregularities of a long-standing system overnight. Therefore, the government needs some time for state reforms.

Nazrul Islam Khan made these remarks during a discussion program held in Dhaka. He pointed out that every sector of the country was destroyed during the previous government's tenure. From the administration to the judiciary, politicization was rampant. There is no alternative to patience to recover from this massive damage.

The BNP leader added that the people of the country are waiting for a free and fair election. However, before organizing the election, reforms in key institutions, including the Election Commission, are essential. He expressed hope that the current interim government will fulfill the people's expectations and complete the reform work quickly.

Finally, he urged party leaders, activists, and the general public to remain united. He warned that although the autocrat has fallen, their associates are still conspiring in various ways. Therefore, everyone must remain alert and cooperate with the government to restore democracy in the country swiftly.
