Bangladesh and India are taking initiatives to reopen the border haats that have been closed for a long time. The Commerce Minister of Bangladesh discussed this issue during a recent meeting with former Indian Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi. The meeting emphasized making trade easier for the convenience of people living in the border areas of both countries.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other reasons, several border haats between the two countries have remained closed. When these haats are operational, local residents can easily buy and sell daily necessities at reasonable prices. The discussion focused on reopening these markets quickly and boosting bilateral trade relations.
The Commerce Minister stated that reopening the border haats would enhance communication and friendship among the people of the border regions. Additionally, these markets play a significant role in curbing smuggling. Indian representative Dinesh Trivedi agreed on these points and assured cooperation for quick implementation.
