Special cholera vaccination campaign begins to curb infection

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has launched a special cholera vaccination campaign to prevent the spread of the disease. The initiative primarily targets residents living in high-risk areas where cholera cases are frequently reported. Various development partners are working alongside the government to implement this campaign on the ground.

Medical professionals note that cholera cases typically rise at the beginning of the hot season due to contaminated water and poor sanitation. To control this situation, a two-dose oral cholera vaccine (OCV) is being administered. The second dose will be given after a specific interval following the first dose.

Health officials stated that this vaccine is completely safe and highly effective in preventing cholera. However, they emphasized that vaccination alone is not enough; everyone must also drink safe boiled water and maintain the habit of washing hands thoroughly before eating.

Experts believe this vaccination drive will significantly reduce cholera infections. However, they pointed out that ensuring safe drinking water and improved sanitation facilities for every citizen is crucial for long-term prevention of the disease.
