People no longer want politics of hide-and-seek and compromise

Political analysts and civil society representatives have warned that deceptive politics and secret compromises will no longer work in Bangladesh. During a discussion program held in Dhaka, speakers emphasized that the general public is now highly aware of their rights and ready to resist any form of backroom political deals.

Highlighting the political history of the past few decades, speakers noted that public aspirations were repeatedly ignored in favor of secret compromises between political parties. This weakened democratic institutions and stripped citizens of their voting rights. Following the recent student-led mass uprising, the nation now dreams of building a new, discrimination-free Bangladesh.

Addressing political parties, the speakers urged them to rely on the public rather than foreign powers or specific interest groups to gain power. The younger generation demands significant political reforms, envisioning a system where every citizen enjoys equal rights and no one is above the law.

According to analysts, the primary goal ahead is to establish a government of the people through a free, fair, and neutral election. To achieve this, key state sectors, including the Election Commission, must undergo essential reforms. If political parties fail to understand this public demand and continue with compromise politics, they risk becoming permanently alienated from the people.
