Electricity supply will remain suspended for three consecutive hours in several areas of Dhaka on Wednesday. Power distribution authorities announced that this temporary measure is necessary to carry out urgent repairs and development work on the transmission lines. Residents in the affected areas are being notified in advance through announcements and official notices.
According to sources in the power division, the shutdown will take place from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, or at convenient slots depending on the area. The maintenance work includes replacing old transmission wires, testing transformers, and trimming tree branches near power lines to ensure safety and stability.
Officials from the Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) and Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO) stated that electricity demand is relatively lower during the winter season. Therefore, they are prioritizing grid maintenance now to prevent major system failures and ensure uninterrupted power supply during the upcoming summer.
The power division has expressed regret for the temporary inconvenience caused to consumers. Field engineers have assured that the maintenance work will be completed within the scheduled timeframe to restore power supply as quickly as possible.
“While regular maintenance is essential for grid stability, sudden power outages cause significant inconvenience to residents, businesses, and hospitals. Authorities must ensure timely communication and complete the repairs swiftly to minimize the impact on daily life.”
