Gold prices have been increased once again in the local market of Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (BAJUS) announced this decision through a press release. The new rates will be effective across the country starting today, meaning buyers will now have to spend more to purchase gold.
According to BAJUS, the price hike is due to the rising price of pure gold in the local bullion market. Under the new pricing, the cost of high-quality 22-carat gold per bhori has been raised. Over the past few months, gold prices in the country have fluctuated multiple times.
The frequent hikes in gold prices have triggered mixed reactions among general buyers and jewelry traders. Common buyers express concern that purchasing gold during the wedding season will become difficult if prices continue to rise. Meanwhile, traders state they had no choice but to adjust prices in line with the international market.
Experts believe that unless the volatility in the global gold market subsides, the chances of prices dropping in the local market remain slim. Whether the prices will decrease in the coming days depends entirely on global market conditions. General consumers are now waiting for a potential price drop.
“The frequent fluctuations in gold prices are significantly impacting middle-class and lower-middle-class consumers in Bangladesh. Purchasing gold for weddings and festivals is becoming increasingly difficult, highlighting the need for stable market policies.”
