A sanitary inspector in Shahjadpur, Sirajganj, handed down an unusual punishment to a milk seller for mixing water with milk. During a routine market inspection, the inspector found the milk to be heavily adulterated and, in a fit of anger, poured the bucket of milk over the seller's head. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread discussion.
According to local sources, food department officials were conducting a regular market monitoring drive. During the drive, they tested the milk of a local vendor and found a high percentage of water. While such offenses usually lead to fines or legal action, the inspector chose to punish the seller on the spot by pouring the milk over him.
Following the incident, some local consumers supported the action, arguing that adulterators deserve harsh lessons. However, a large section of the public and human rights activists criticized the move, stating that public humiliation is not a lawful punishment and the officer should have followed proper legal procedures.
The local sub-district administration stated that they are aware of the incident and are investigating the matter. Authorities will check if the officer violated service rules by taking the law into his own hands. Meanwhile, officials assured that regular drives against food adulteration will be strengthened in the coming days.
“Food adulteration is a serious crime that poses severe health risks. However, there are established legal procedures to punish offenders. A public official taking the law into their own hands and publicly humiliating a citizen is unacceptable. This incident highlights the need for proper administrative training and the strict, lawful enforcement of food safety regulations.”
