A violent clash broke out between two local groups over establishing dominance and local disputes in Saltha upazila of Faridpur. At least 10 people from both sides were injured and admitted to the local hospital. During the clash, several houses were attacked, vandalized, and looted.
According to local sources, there had been a long-standing dispute between the leaders of the two groups over maintaining influence in the area. Following this, yesterday morning, supporters of both sides clashed with local weapons, including shields, spears, and bamboo sticks. Panic quickly spread throughout the area, forcing local shops to close.
Upon receiving the news, Saltha police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. Police fired several rounds of blank shots to disperse the agitated crowd. Due to the strict stance of the police, both groups were forced to retreat. The situation is currently under police control.
Extreme tension prevails in the area following the incident. Additional police forces have been deployed to prevent further clashes. Police stated that efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved in the vandalism and looting. Although no written complaint has been filed yet, preparations for a case are ongoing.
