Police have arrested two female Union Parishad (UP) members with a large quantity of Yaba in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar. Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a drive and detained them. Police said the arrested women had been involved in drug trafficking for a long time.
According to the police, a special operation was conducted in a border area of Teknaf last night. The two female UP members were searched on suspicion. During the search, thousands of Yaba pills were recovered from their possession, with a market value of several lakh taka.
Following the incident, local residents expressed their anger. The involvement of public representatives in such crimes has sparked widespread discussion in the area. Local police administration stated that their anti-drug drives will continue, and no offender will be spared.
A case has been filed against the detained UP members under the Narcotics Control Act. They were sent to court this morning. Police have launched an investigation to identify the masterminds behind this drug smuggling ring.
