Gold prices have been increased once again in the country. The Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (BAJUS) announced that the price of the finest quality 22-carat gold will now be 137,449 BDT per bhori. This new rate will come into effect nationwide starting tomorrow.
The decision was finalized during a meeting of the BAJUS price determination committee. According to the new rates, the price of 21-carat gold has been raised to 131,195 BDT per bhori. Additionally, 18-carat gold will now cost 112,453 BDT per bhori, while traditional method gold has been priced at 92,984 BDT per bhori.
Business leaders stated that the price of pure gold in the local market has risen significantly. They claimed there was no alternative but to increase the price to maintain balance in the domestic market and prevent smuggling. The adjustment was made in alignment with international market trends.
The continuous rise in gold prices has put ordinary buyers in a difficult position. Especially during the wedding season, purchasing jewelry has become highly challenging for middle-class families. Market analysts believe that if instability in the global market persists, gold prices in the local market may rise even further.
“This record increase in gold prices will heavily impact middle and lower-middle-class consumers. Although BAJUS frequently raises prices citing the international market, the purchasing power of local buyers must be considered. Stricter monitoring to prevent smuggling and government oversight to regulate the market are essential.”
