The Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment has called for building strong resistance within the country to stop people from taking risky illegal routes abroad. He emphasized that local administrations and citizens must work together to prevent traffickers from deceiving innocent people.
Every year, thousands of Bangladeshis fall victim to human traffickers in hopes of reaching Europe or the Middle East. Many lose their lives while crossing the Mediterranean Sea or end up in foreign prisons, prompting the government to focus on simplifying legal migration channels.
The ministry stated that strict legal actions are being taken against unauthorized agencies and brokers involved in human trafficking. Additionally, special awareness campaigns will be launched at the district level to inform people about safe migration processes.
Experts believe that law enforcement alone cannot fully solve this crisis. It is crucial to create local employment opportunities for youth and reduce the cost of legal migration to make it accessible to everyone.
